![]() I've heard that there is a 10-40% performance hit, but I'm guessing it would be unnoticeable for most everything I do. I'm also concerned about it fighting other low-level IO apps like SQL server. It seems like BitLocker shouldn't effect either of these because it works "under" them, but you'd only find out once it was too late and what a nasty surprise. ![]() ![]() I also never want to lose data - I use both CrashPlan (continuous encrypted cloud backup) and Acronis (system images). If my laptop gets fried/dies, I want the ability to rip out the hard drive and put it in another machine. My main concern is backups and data recovery. I'm very anxious about scrambling the contents of my disk. If I turn on BitLocker, under what scenarios could I regret it later? For instance, I doubt a BitLocker-encrypted drive is as "future proof" as an unencrypted disk, if my plan where to encrypt a backup drive and throw it in my closest for 10 years. However, there's a certain amount of unknown downside. If someone stole my laptop it is scary how much they would know about me, so I'm considering turning on full disk encryption.
